It's starting to feel like summer. Hazy, hot days at the beach -- hopefully a beach not covered by tons of plastic as we saw on National Geographic's Instagram over the last week. Fishlips has pretty, eco-friendly beachy designs that you can get through her online shop or Etsy.

Etsy Monday stephaniecoleDESIGN

I love this designer! Charming designs on eco-friendly paper.
"British designer-maker Stephanie Cole's work predominantly explores nature and the shapes, patterns and colours which excite her most. Inspirations come from a fruitful mixture of farmer's markets, British hedgerows and thought-provoking proverbs and words of wisdom..."

Here's what the shop owner says about her shop and business:

All the illustrations you see are created, painted, drawn & scribbled by me, Liz Temperley, hello!

I design with the aim to make people smile taking inspiration from the natural world, "being British", food and the random musings of everyday life. Creating unique, colourful & whimsical illustrations that often feature a witty caption!

If I use a supplier to help manufacture the greetings cards, mugs & textiles they'll be UK based, hopefully this means we're all doing our bit to support British industry!

I live in London.

Colour makes me happy x

Made me happy too, Thanks Liz.

Wrapper of the Week Museum Studio

I wanted to get back into posting about wrapping, and found this great shop to start with.
Collage Cuts Tobacco

"ABOUT MUSEUM
We go to museums to satisfy our natural tendency to seek out impact through art and culture. We want to build something that incorporates this powerful sense into more of your surrounding life. We want to inspire the same sense of awe and appreciation into our products without the preciousness or sterility that is the wall between you and the creation.
Founded in 2016 by Shane Quinn and Johnna West, MUSEUM is a design studio and brand focused on offering utility and function in minimal simplicity and modern form. We believe quality and purposeful design should be inherently accessible in your everyday life.

ABOUT THE GOODS
It is important to us that we create products that are as useful and environmentally-friendly as they are beautiful. We maintain a deep consideration for the wellbeing of ourselves and our planet, which is why we carefully source and evaluate every material and ingredient.
All of our cards are letterpress printed in the USA using the highest quality materials and sustainable printing practices. Our Aura Mists & Plant Elixir have been carefully hand-crafted using only premium ingredients that are safe for you and your body as well as the environment. We use pure essential oils, botanical elements and all-natural components that are free of harmful chemicals, additives, and toxins.
We also use recyclable and reusable packaging, work with US-based manufacturers when feasible, and are continuously assessing the materials and methods of each project, always looking to create the most natural and sustainable products possible."
A lot of gift wrap skews girly or cute. Museum's design options are sophisticated and work for anyone.

Etsy Monday Studio Karamelo

StudioKaramelo has some very pretty wrapping paper and stamps for Christmas.  I was at a paper store last week and saw some wonderful stamping with heat embossing, so I am now on the hunt for particularly pretty stamps.

Here is what the shop owner says about her process:
"floralgeometrics.
On rubber & paper.Leaves and branches meet dots and lines. Floral meets geometrical.Pebble stones in my jacket nuzzling between my fingers, clacking softly, the hackly tangle of hedges having no beginning and no ending. A knobbed bough with moos, a fine structured umbel, an abstract alga, a winterly seed head. A fascinating beauty reveals in these simple shapes and pattern. I am taken with the lines of nature, those who are not exact and straight but nevertheless well-shaped.And dots. Again and again. That's karamelo.
With pencil and indian ink my motifs come onto paper. Handdrawn. Afterwards they are lasered out of rubber stamp or printed with pigment on paper.I do not only find my inspiration in nature, also the used materials are mostly made out of ecological resources without chemical additions. As possible all products and packaging are produced environmentally friendly and sustainable."

Wrapper of the Week - Wrappily for the Holidays

The Holiday Season is coming -- otherwise known as Wrapping Olympics.  Time to feature ecofriendly wrapping paper makers who have really pretty wrapping! As I write this, Wrappily has a number of their designs on sale. Since a lot of those designs happen to be my favorites this is a great opportunity!

Mix it up with other designs

This store has a real commitment to ecofriendly wrapping using  fun, modern design.  At this time of the year, mindful shopping is important.  Where our dollars go determines the future of stores like Wrappily that are trying to determine the future of our environment.  Wrapping should be a mix of re-using, recycling other objects in creative ways, and when you do buy, buy from a store/manufacturer mindful of its impact on the environment.

Etsy Monday Autumn Leaves Gift Wrapping from ManoMonai

I was looking for an autumn leaves theme for gift wrapping, and found this great shop that makes handmade papers and tags incorporating leaves, flowers and even spices!

Grazina is an artist and a designer. Here's her introduction to her shop:
" I am glad to see you in my shop "Mano monai".
You are probably wondering why my shop has this name? Lithuanian 'monai' mean magic, miracles and 'mano' means mine. The name “Mano monai” can be translated as "My miracles". You already understand that Lithuanian is my native language.
The creative process for me is like a miracle. I feel very good whilst creating. I would like to mention that I have graduated from the Arts Academy in Vilnius and I understand creative work as a professional.
Another miracle in my life is my place of residence and my family. I live in the old farmstead surrounded by beautiful nature. I can walk in the grasslands, scenting flowers and collecting them. Believe me, this is what I really like to do.
I use natural flowers and plants for my homemade paper. I create greeting cards, small paper decorations and paper home decor also from my paper with floral and recycled paper. I love the natural materials.
I would like to believe, that when you will see my creation homemade paper or paper decorations in reality, you will say :"This is a miracle", or maybe: "Monai"
I love her gift bags and tags.

wrapper of the week - jurianne matter

Here's another great, ecofriendly shop with super cute gift wrapping products.

Based in the Netherlands, Jurianne is inspired by nature, and creates beautiful paper and textile products. In her words:
Why always eco?Very simple: I don’t want to earn money at the expense of nature or my fellow human beings. I’m not actually such an environmental activist. But beautiful is I believe only beautiful if it is honest and clean too.
I particularly like the paper garlands she designs, so perfect for dressing up kraft paper gift wrapping or other simple gift wraps.  Some examples from her shop:

Here comes the sun!

Wrapper of the week: Smock

There are many, many good reasons to support stores like Smock.  I don't think I can describe them better than they do themselves:

"This is how we do business.

We print sustainably; doing things all responsible printers should do. We use only  vegetable oil based and low-Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) inks. We use low-VOC and citrus-based solvents. We recycle our photo chemistry, film, paper offcuts, and photopolymer printing plates. Empty ink cans and old rags are kept out of landfills. We recycle and compost our waste. We use recycled packaging materials and reuse packing materials from our vendors. We donate surplus paper and envelopes to our local public schools.  We package our custom work in keepsake boxes made in NY  from 100% post-consumer recycled materials.
We print on Bamboo paper. Bamboo is a truly sustainable and renewable resource, generating up to 35% more oxygen than hardwood trees, and absorbing 4 times the carbon as well. It’s the fastest growing plant on this planet; it grows without pesticides or fertilizers; and it requires very little water to grow. Bamboo also makes the prettiest paper out there. Today, we partner with a historic New England  paper mill to develop a pesticide-free, fertilizer-free, fine artisan paper just for us. Our bamboo paper is extremely soft, luxuriously thick, and elegantly textured. It’s also perfect for letterpress.
We actively work to reduce our carbon footprint and are entirely wind-powered through Native Energy. We offer bus passes to employees to encourage public transportation usage. We subsidize Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) memberships with a local organic farm, because we believe our food shouldn’t have to travel 1,500 miles to reach us."

Their choices in gift wrap are beautiful and beautifully done. I particularly like their double sided options, as they say, all printed on bamboo paper.

This two sided "ink" gift wrap is beautiful.

Eco friendly, sustainable gift wrap

2 sheets, each 24 " x 36"
They also have gift boxes. I was just thinking about how gift boxes were probably the best possible solution for wrapping. Easy to use and much easier to re-use, beautiful gift boxes justify investing a little more in something that can get used again and again for the best possible presentation. Swap in some beautiful ribbons and gift tags and you are done!

I love this option! It's like a gift around your gift!
Their tags are beautiful too.

Pretty and special.

All of the short sighted things done that have led to climate change were motivated at least in part by economics. Somewhere, consumers wanted better hairspray, or cheaper energy or something and there were those ready to take advantage of that.  So why don't we, the consumers, take control of that cycle and support those willing to invest in trying to do things the right way.  It is a small action that can add up to a big influence.

Two for tea (two uses for tea towels)

Tea Towel Wrapping is one of the ultimate eco-friendly wrapping ideas. Green thumbs up for re-use of the wrapping and cotton instead of trees. For those of us who think about that, here are some ideas about how to do it:

The simple approach.

I highly recommend following the above link to the post by Brit and Co on about ten different ways to wrap using a tea towel. I mean, they even get you to MAKE the tea towel. Whew. I bow before them.
