Dad Day

My dad, who passed away some years ago, was so important to me growing up.  He worked so hard to teach his children independent thought, intellectual honesty and love for one's fellow man through his words and deeds.  He went on to do the same with his grandchildren.  I never think of him without a warm feeling lighting up my day. I was fortunate enough to finally marry a man who brought all those special qualities and more to his dadship.

So we can all celebrate our wonderful dads, here's a quick round up from Etsy of Father's Day gift wrap, starting with some fun stamp action:

Talk to the Sun has great stamps you can use to make your own gift wrap.

What a great graphic choice from ThePerkyPainter in the UK!
Super Cute option with a great Dad Day tag. Awww.

Etsy Monday BookishlyUK

Bookishly Map Wrapping Paper
One of my favorite movies from the 80s was 84 Charing Cross Road, a  (trueish) story of a transatlantic correspondence between a writer in New York looking for rare books and the staff of a venerable bookstore in London. Mostly a story of friendship, Anne  Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins were brilliant depicting worlds gently colliding - brash New York and civilized London.

Bookishly UK, this Monday's Etsy shop, might become my 84 Charing Cross Road. Featuring designs by Louise Verity, the shop is decidedly book-inspired.  There is a choice selection of quotes, prints, cards and of course wrapping paper. There is just something so appealing and elevating about her designs. You feel smarter just appreciating them.

Etsy Monday LaViePeinte

I started out looking for Christmas wrapping for this Monday's Etsy shop, but as so often happens when I head there I followed a slight detour to some very different wrapping paper.

First of all there was Christmas, in the form of Christmas Dachshunds.

You have to admit that these dachshunds definitely say Christmas.

Next came the giraffes,

Jabu Giraffes

and my interest was well and truly caught.  Here is some of what Talia says about her work:

"Prior to emigrating from South Africa, I started La Vie Peinte which means ‘Life Painted’ in French. This name is rather apt based on the themes that run through my creations.

La Vie Peinte started off with custom/ bespoke chalk-painting, upcycling and repurposing of furniture and furnishings. I have since been extra busy with many creative projects and have added a number of product ranges to La Vie Peinte’s offering.

I believe that I am very expressive in my artwork, which can be attributed to my flare for combining various retro and modern vintage styles. You will notice that a fusion between these two themes, combined with my experiences and upbringing in South Africa, results in art pieces that display a distinctive taste for the quirky, yet stylish! I pour this and more into my work, and hence they truly become tangible expressions of 'Life Painted by Talia!’"

Well, I would agree on the basis of this fabulous pineapple paper:

pretty excellent shapes and colors here
and when I saw the flamingos, it was all over.  I heart flamingos in a very profound way.

such a pretty design.
Let's finish with Talia's protea design.  I live in Florida, so I just had a big bunch of these on my dining table. They lasted forever and looked so sculptural.

Very pretty, very unique.

greenery

I liked ToneandState's use of greenery (yesterday's Etsy shop post), so went looking for more examples. Pretty simple, right? Kraft paper, jute and stuff from your yard.

Look how pretty these gift wrapping kits are!  This week's Etsy shop is Tone and State. Among some other nice graphic products, she sells gift wrapping kits that include  2 Sheets of Professionally Printed Wrapping Paper, Greenery, Kraft Tags (white and neutral) and Yarn. Cool idea.

map wrap.

I love wrapping with maps. You can use maps of a particular place that has meaning to someone, a place that someone wants to go, old maps, new maps, purchased or upcycled.

Chevron Map Wrap from Bookishly UK Etsy Shop
Special places Map Wrap from the Chic Site
I should do this for my husband.

Etsy Monday Talk to the Sun

These fabulous stamps caught my eye, from an Etsy shop in Japan called TalktotheSun.

imagine this on some kraft paper
The shop owner, Riyo, says this about her work:

"My life time goal is to live simple but enjoy adventure and learn something for life. It's not bad to have simple and slow life.  All handmade items are designed and handmade by me.  Most rubber stamps are made to order."
Her designs are indeed simple, in a way that would translate well to stamping gift wrap.

I love this to and from stamp. I need something like this when I don't have time for a tag.
She has stationary and textiles as well.  I like the idea of wrapping kitchen gifts or other small gifts in these hand-stamped towels.  The designs are simple but charming and the price is reasonable.

Use tea towels for wrapping kitchen and kid gifts.

Kraft paper, calligraphy pen, and twine.  I used a straight edge and made xes with both sides of the calligraphy pen.
